Create a GIF and upload it to the class blog
GIFS are created by manipulating the following things:
- Turn visibility on and off for different layers.
- Change the position of objects or layers to make layer content move.
- Change layer opacity to make content fade in or out.
- Change the blending mode of layers.
- Add a style to layers.
(You can not change things like rotation or scale in one frame without effecting the entire animation)
Exporting your GIF
Use the Export for Web option, File> Export>Save for Web
If your Gif isn’t uploading correctly you might need to resize it, this blog explains why letting WordPress resize your GIF might lead to problems. Anyways, it’s a good idea to be conscious of file size when uploading to the web. Check out this blog, it explains that issue in detail. Also, more often than not, you’ll want your GIF to loop. Revisit the end of this page for correct export settings.
Assignment #3, Due Feb 7th
is the state of being which occurs when an object, service, or practice is no longer wanted even though it may still be in good working order. Obsolescence frequently occurs because a replacement has become available that has, in sum, more advantages compared to the disadvantages incurred by maintaining or repairing the original. Obsolete refers to something that is already disused or discarded, or antiquated. Typically, obsolescence is preceded by a gradual decline in popularity. (From wikipedia)
The assignment for next Tuesday is to create three GIFs, one narrative, one abstract, and one text-based that embody, express, or deal with the idea of obsolescence. These GIFs should be posted on the class blog before class begins.
Think as broadly and creatively as you can about the idea of obsolescence; What would it feel like to be obsolescent? How is it determined what is obsolescent and what is not? If you were to graph the process of obsolescence what would that look like? What does the word sound like- can you break it down to its component parts? How do you feel about technology, fashion, or pop culture that has become obsolete.
Your three GIFs should be posted on the class blog before class begins next Tuesday.
